Charles R. Swindoll was born on October 18, 1935 in El Campo, Texas. After his duty in the Marine Corps, Swindoll entered the Dallas Theological Seminary and graduated with several honors including the Harry A. Ironside Award for Expository Preaching and the Faculty Award for Most Outstanding show more Graduate. Charles R. "Chuck" Swindoll (born 18 October 1934) is an evangelicalChristianpastor, educator and radio preacher. He was born in Campo, Texas]], the third of three children born to Earl and Lovell Swindoll. He graduated from Charles H. Milby High School in Houston, TX. Before a life in Christian ministry, Chuck initially pursued his interest in mechanical engineering, and also served with the United States Marine Corps in Southeast Asia. He married his wife, Cynthia, in 1955 and they have four children. Swindoll entered Dallas Theological Seminary in 1959 where he graduated magna cum laude four years later.

Chuck Swindoll was ordained into the ministry in 1963, and served in Dallas, Texas under J. Dwight Pentecost for two years. He has since held senior pastorates in Waltham, Massachusetts (1965-67), Irving, Texas (1967-71), and Fullerton, California (1971-94). Though Swindoll is widely regarded as an Evangelical Free Church of America preacher, the Stonebriar Community Church in Frisco, Texas, of which he has been senior pastor since 1998, is not a member of the EFCA¹.

In the summer of 1977, the sermons that Chuck Swindoll preached at the First Evangelical Free Church in Fullerton, California, were broadcast on twenty-seven stations in the United States. Listeners responded immediately to the lively message of this down-to-earth pastor who could communicate God’s truth in terms they could understand and apply to their lives. In 1979, the radio ministry of Insight for Living was officially born, beginning on just a handful of stations. Today, more than two thousand stations carry the program around the world in seven different languages.

Two passions have directed the life and ministry of Chuck Swindoll: an unwavering commitment to the practical communication and application of God’s Word and an untiring devotion to seeing lives transformed by God’s grace. Chuck has devoted more than four decades to these goals, and he models the contagious joy that springs from enthusiastically following Jesus Christ.

Call to Ministry
While on the island of Okinawa during his tour of duty in the United States Marine Corps, Chuck recognized that the Lord was c
