Merrill Womach (February 7, 1927 – December 28, 2014) was an American undertaker, organist and gospel singer, notable both for founding National Music Service (now Global Distribution Network, Inc.[1]), which provided recorded music to funeral homes across America, and for surviving a Thursday, November 23, 1961 plane crash in Beaver Marsh, Oregon that left him disfigured with third degree burns on his hands and his entire head.[2]
Womach authorized an autobiography of his recovery titled Tested by Fire, co-authored with his former wife Virginia with help from Mel and Lyla White. A documentary film titled He Restoreth My Soul was also made about Womach's accident and subsequent recovery.[3]
He died in his sleep on December 28, 2014.[4]

Merrill graduated from North Central High School in Spokane in 1944 and later graduated from Northwest Bible College in Seattle, WA in 1948. On Sunday, the 28th of December Spokane lost a beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, Friend and Well-Known Gospel Singer, and Funeral Service Icon. Merrill is as well known for his amazing vocal artistry and four-octave tenor voice as he is for his creative entrepreneurship that built a national music service for funeral homes designed to minister to families during their time of loss. Years ago, while his fledgling business was growing, a private plane he was flying crashed in the woods upon take off. Merrill not only beat the odds of surviving the fiery plane crash, he also continued to sing and inspire others with his strong faith in God.
