Life has a strange sense of humor. Sometimes you’ll get professionally stranded, in search for a job, and you’ll maybe start painting as a hobby, nothing more than a way to fill all that free time. LukeChueh had a promising career as a designer when he decided to move to Los Angeles. However, he failed to get a job there and started painting instead. He was invited to show his works at Cannibal Flower, an LA based underground art show. Now he’s an established artist, who bases his work on his own personal experiences.

The best way to describe Chueh’s art is to say it causes mixed feelings, as the viewers are undoubtedly amused but also feel bad for the characters. A minimal color scheme, a simple animal character, and an endless list of ridiculous and ill-fated situations – that is something the artist is famous for. Biography

Born in Philadelphia, but raised in Fresno, Luke Chueh's (pronounced CHU) formal art education began and ended at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obipso where he earned a BS in Art & Design (Graphic Design concentration). Before graduating, he was employed by the Ernie Ball Company, working in-house as designer/illustrator. While there Chueh was responsible for several award winning designs and was featured in the design annuals of Communication Arts and Print Magazine. At the same time, he also created, produced, wrote, designed, edited and published "E.X.P.", a 'zine dedicated to the "Intelligent Dance Music (IDM)" genre.

In 2003, Chueh moved to Los Angeles to further pursue a career in design. However, a lack of employment opportunities left him resorting to painting as a way to keep busy (a hobby he picked up while attending Cal Poly). Luke Chueh (; born March 7, 1973) is a Chinese-Americanlowbrow, pop surrealist, painter. His works is a juxtaposition of the cute with the macabre, including various self-portraits reimagining himself as a bear character.

Born to Chinese immigrants in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the family relocated to Fresno, California soon afterwards. Taught illustration at a young age, he became obsessed with interpreting the popular culture imagery he was surrounded by. Trained as graphic designer at California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo, he was hired as an in-house designer & illustrator at the Ernie Ball Company in 1997.

In 2003, Chueh relocated to Los Angeles and started pursuing a career as a painter. He hasn't had to take a day job since.
