Richard Franklin (actor)
English actor (1936–2023)
Richard Kimber Franklin (15 January 1936 – 25 December 2023)[2][3] was an English actor, writer, director and political activist. Principally a stage actor, he also appeared as a regular character in several high-profile British television programmes, including Crossroads and Emmerdale Farm, and he portrayed CaptainMike Yates of UNIT in Doctor Who from 1971 until 1974, returning to the role on a number of occasions both on television and in Doctor Who spin-off media.
Franklin was a dramatist and the author of the book Forest Wisdom: Radical Reform of Democracy and the Welfare State,[4] which reflected his political views and activism. He also wrote novels based in the Whoniverse. Franklin stood as a candidate for the UK Parliament for several parties and founded the Silent Majority Party.

Richard Franklin (15 July 1948 – 11 July 2007) was an Australian film director.[1]
Early life and career
Franklin was born and grew up in Brighton, Melbourne,[2] the son of Margaret Anne (Jacobson) and Rea Richard Franklin, an engineering company director.[3] He was educated at Haileybury College. In the 1960s, Franklin was the drummer in the Melbourne band The Pink Finks, which also featured Ross Wilson and Ross Hannaford, later of Daddy Cool. The band released several singles, none of which had any significant chart success.[4] Franklin chose a career in film rather than music. Franklin began his art career as a commercial artist. Between 1987 and 1989 he taught illustration art at the Phoenix Institute of Technology.
In March 1990, Franklin spend one year studying in the museums of Europe, Belgium, Holland, France and Germany. He received intense studies of the old masters' techniques by working directly in museums from the original paintings of Rembrandt, Van Dyke, Vermeer, Monet, and many others. The aesthetics of the Old Masters impressed him a great deal and he continued the classic tradition in his work, meticulously combining the technique of the Old Masters with his own contemporary sensibility to create unique works.
