American sportscaster (born 1939)
Brent Woody Musburger (born May 26, 1939) is an American sportscaster, currently the lead broadcaster and managing editor at Vegas Stats and Information Network (VSiN).
With CBS Sports from 1973 until 1990, he was the original host of their program The NFL Today and is credited with coining the phrase "March Madness" to describe the NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament while covering the Final Four. While at CBS, Musburger also covered the Super Bowl, NBA Finals, the World Series, U.S. Open tennis, The Masters and college football.
Joining ESPN and ABC Sports in 1990, Musburger continued to cover the NBA Finals, as well as hosting Monday Night Football and providing play-by-play for Saturday Night Football and the SEC Network. He covered the Indianapolis 500 motor race, U.S. Open and British Open golf, the FIFA World Cup in soccer, the Belmont Stakes in horse racing, and the College Football national championship among other big events. Brent Musburger's Montana roots run deep
Famed sportscaster Brent Musburger, who grew up in Montana and used his deep voice and folksy style to forge a career that lasted decades and provided a seat at many of the nation’s most popular sports events, has decided to retire at age 77.
Musburger, who rose to fame as a CBS announcer but most recently has worked for ESPN, said Wednesday he plans to help his family get a sports handicapping business started.
Musburger’s last game behind the mic will be the Kentucky-Georgia men’s basketball game on Jan. 31. That takes him back to Rupp Arena, where he called Villanova’s historic NCAA championship upset over Georgetown in 1985.
Musburger was born in Portland, Ore., but moved with his parents to Billings when he was a toddler. He eventually moved to the Chicago area to attend Northwestern University and study journalism. He worked for several newspapers before finding fame covering the NFL for CBS in the early 1970s. Football stars Frank Gifford and Irv Cross shared the set, as did Phyllis George.

Life
[change | change source]Musberger was born on May 26, 1939 in Portland, Oregon.[1] Musberger was raised in Billings, Montana and in Chicago, Illinois. He studied at Northwestern University. He has been married to Arlene Clare Sander since 1963. They have three children. He made the voice of Brent Mustanberger in Cars 2 and in Planes.
