The Cory Smoot Experiment
The Cory Smoot Experiment was recorded in 2010 at Cory’s Karma Studios, where GWAR, Municipal Waste, and many others have laid down tracks. The songs were originally meant for a concept album called “Religion is Fiction”. Cory was going to record all the tracks and then get some of his favorite singers from the internationally-acclaimed Richmond metal scene to do the vocals, including GWAR lead singer Dave Brockie and Lamb of God’s Randy Blythe. Unfortunately, this didn’t happen due to scheduling problems but that didn’t mean the end of the project. Cory went ahead and recorded the vocals himself and re-named the project “The Cory Smoot Experiment”, completing the entire package just before his final tour with GWAR in the fall of 2011.
After his passing, GWAR and Metal Blade set up the Smoot Family Fund to help provide for Cory’s family. All proceeds from this album will be donated to this fund.

Flattus Maximus
Learn more about Flattus Maximus
Flattus Maximus (Cory Smoot) was the guitarist for the heavy metal band Gwar. Tragically, on November 3rd, 2011, Cory passed away due to a heart condition. He was an absolute pleasure to work with as a part of GWAR. It was an honor and a pleasure to know and hang out with him out of costume as Cory Smoot. RIP buddy. You'll be continued to be loved and missed.
Cory was known by his red face, white dreadlocks, dinosaur-head shoulder pads and reptile feet. The name "Flattus" implies (verified by various concerts) a flatulent character. His speaking mannerisms suggest a childlike intelligence and naivety (until recently; his entries in the current website's blog depict a different, more violent Flattus).
Cory's lessons are taught in full costume. He teaches 4 Gwar songs. Beware, this guy has a ferocious right hand so make sure you have your metal chops up to par before attempting his lessons.

GWAR guitarist Cory Smoot died Thursday in the metal group’s tour bus.
Smoot, who joined the satirical, science-fiction-inspired band in 2002 as Flattus Maximus, was found dead by his bandmates as they were crossing the border into Canada on their North American tour, news sites report.
The longtime band may be obscure to most Americans, but it had a devoted following and recently appeared on ‘Late Night With Jimmy Fallon’ to plug its current tour. (See video below.)
That tour will go on, according to the Edmonton Journal, with the band performing in the city Friday. The Journal included this statement from band frontman David Brockie:
‘Cory was found deceased this morning as the band prepared for a border crossing. There is no word as to the cause of death and the members of Gwar are completely shocked and devastated that this has occurred.’
GWAR started in Richmond, Va., in the earl
