Short Biography of Pr. Dionysios (Dion) D. Dionysiou:
Professor Dionysiou was born on the Island of Cyprus. He is currently a UNESCO co-Chair Professor on “Water Access and Sustainability” and a Herman Schneider Professor of Environmental Engineering at the University of Cincinnati. He received a Diploma (B.S./M.S.) from the National Technical University of Athens, Greece and an M.S. from Tufts University, both in Chemical Engineering. He received his Ph.D. degree in Environmental Engineering from the University of Cincinnati in 2001. He teaches courses on drinking water quality, treatment and reuse, advanced unit operations for water treatment, advanced oxidation technologies, and physical-chemical processes for water quality control. Biography:
Dr. Dionysios (Dion) D. Dionysiou is currently a Professor of Environmental Engineering and Science Program at the University of Cincinnati. He teaches courses and performs research in the areas of drinking water quality and treatment, advanced unit operations for water treatment, advanced oxidation technologies and nanotechnologies, and physical-chemical processes for water quality control. He has received funding from NSF, US EPA, NASA, NOAA/CICEET, USGS, USDA, Ohio Sea Grant, USAID, and DuPont. He is currently one of the editors of Chemical Engineering Journal, Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Advanced Oxidation Technologies, and Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Environmental Engineering (ASCE). Stratos Dionysiou was a laika and elafro-laika singer whose heyday was the 1970s and 1980s.
Dionysiou was born in Nigrita, Serres prefecture, on November 8, 1935, to Asia Minor refugees Angelos and Stasa Dionysiou. At age 13, he lost his father.
Dionysiou went to work as a tailor and was married, at age 20, to Georgia Laveni. The couple would have four children. While still working as a tailor, he also appeared in night clubs in Thessaloniki where he had moved.
Dionysiou left Thessaloniki for Athens to further his singing career. He appeared in Nikaia night club "Asteras" with well-established singer Kaity Grey and in 1959 recorded his first song. The 24-year old singer was signed by recording company "Columbia" and started singing songs by Babis Bakalis, Kostas Virvos and others with some success. He next re-recorded older songs by laika masters such as Vasilis Tsitsanis, Yiannis Papaioannou, Giorgos Mitsakis and Manolis Chiotis.
