Ruth Ann Buzzi (BUZZY; born July 24, 1936)[1][2] is a retired American actress and comedienne. She has appeared on stage, in films, and on television. She is best known for her performances on the comedy-variety show Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In from 1968 to 1973, for which she won a Golden Globe Award and received five Emmy nominations.
Early life
Buzzi was born at Westerly Hospital, Westerly, Rhode Island, the daughter of Rena Pauline and Angelo Peter Buzzi, a nationally recognized stone sculptor. Older folks might remember Rhode Island's Ruth Buzzi for her many character portrayals on Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In from 1968-1973. Buzzi won a Golden Globe Award and five Emmy nominations for her work on the program.
The younger set perhaps remembers Buzzi for her work on Sesame Street from 1993-2008 and several Sesame Street special projects that followed, including The Adventures of Elmo in Grouchland and Elmopalooza.

Sadly, Buzzi's husband of 44 years, Kent Perkins, said Ruth suffered a series of "devastating strokes" on July 19, 2022, that left her "bedridden and incapacitated." Perkins posted the news on his wife's Facebook page.
Perkins told Buzzi's many fans, "She wants you to know she is not in pain and is aware you are sending your best wishes her way."

Ruth Buzzi was born July 24, 1936 in Westerly, Rhode Island to Rena and Angelo Buzzi. Her father was a nationally recognized stone sculptor. Raised in Wequetequock, Connecticut, she attended Stonington High School. She gained experience as a cheerleader, performing before crowds at athletic events.
At 17, she enrolled at the Pasadena Playhouse for the Performing Arts. Her classmates included Dustin Hoffman and Gene Hackman. She graduated with honors. Buzzi went on to Act in a wide variety of revues throughout New England, and worked alongside other young and talented performers who were just beginning their careers at the time, including Barbra Streisand, Joan Rivers, Dom DeLuise, Bernadette Peters and Carol Burnett.
She came to national recognition when she teamed up with Dom DeLuise in an act in which he played an incompetent magician and she was his sidekick, "Shakuntala", who never spoke but sported a wide grin.
